Didn’t have time to do anything nice, so here is a new years’ doodle.
Happy New Year, everybody!
I’M GONNA KILL SOMETHING.
nipples
DC, why are you making it so easy to hate you?
I headdesked so hard.
But, if I can say one thing, it’s that I hope writers no longer write her as a “Sassy black lady” stereotype. It was a lazy fucking crutch people fell into with Waller a lot.

I am less than amused, DC.
SO MUCH less.
As much as I begrudge Apollo’s shorn locks, I love Paul Cornell as a writer. And I love that Angie’s in the mix from the get-go. And that I get to watch as Apollo and Midnighter meet and fall in love… see them have that first kiss, exchange that first sentimental glance.
Oh yeah, and I love the…
I…actually have a LOT of feelings about Jenny Quantum in this new Stormwatch, actually. Of course the HUGE HULKING ELEPHANT in the room for me is that she is not Apollo and the Midnighter’s babygirl. Which just. Just. Just isn’t RIGHT!! I know the why’s, and yet I still really want to pound the crap out of that guardian of hers. Actually, I just want Apollo and the Midnighter to do it. And I want them to bond with this kid like SCARILY FAST OK.
And about that guardian, whose exact name or powers (besides apparently immortality….?) I’m still fuzzy on. He refers to Jenny’s predecessors as “other century babies”. Implying that there isn’t necessarily a system of Jennys, just a system of…well, century babies, with the Jennys’ purpose. And I do not brook with that. What is a world without Jennys?!
Also, “Jennifer Emily Quantum”, while admittedly an adorable little name, makes me feel weird. Like he named her that or something. And that…that just goes back to the parental/guardianship badness, which makes me want to cry and go and read about Apollo and the Midnighter and Jenny when she was the tiniest baby and all theirs.
And there’s something wrong when she’s not swearing like a sailor and getting in peoples’ faces, incidentally. I would like that rectified.
“This spirit of friendship is most evident between Black Canary and our new character, Starling. Black Canary is, for the most part, the same incredible character she’s always been … Her good friend Starling has been by her side since college and they make a fun duo. For anyone who’s ever had that awesome BFF that’s nothing like you but seems to understand you anyway – you’ll immediately recognize and love the dynamic between Black Canary and Starling.”
—Janelle Asselin, DC editor, on Black Canary in the new Birds of Prey.
Except I won’t because Babs is her one and only “awesome BFF” …
… And because I won’t be reading this book.
Well, Helena’s up there too. And you know, not that I dislike Starling - I don’t know anything about her yet, and I certainly am not going to rush to hate on a new superheroine…but, yeah. Birds of Prey is now nothing at all like the series I fell in love with (and without the possibility of Savant and Creote showing up each month which is the main reason I was pulling it lately anyway…) Yeah.
Which really infuriates me because now that I’ve dropped Batgirl too, I’m now pulling…hm. That would be NO series from DC starring women or prominently-female teams, none whatsoever! Not even for the sake of doing my part to support those titles - I just do not have the money.
You get the fanbase you want, DC.
I haven’t really been active on Tumblr lately, but I have to ask.
Have we discussed how hideous some of these logos are yet? I mean, check out the Grifter one. Gradients fucking everywhere. Is this 1998 or something? Because goddamn.
(via ComicsAlliance Design Meeting: DC’s ‘The New 52’ Logos - ComicsAlliance)
seriously the only good one is the Batwoman one
lmao at the legion lost one, good job you made a lost pun, except that’s your book’s logo now good job
the only one i really like (aside from the batwoman one) is the outlaws one (not pictured here)
My god - half of these look like they were done with Microsoft Word font effects!
UGH!!
